Galway born artist Ruth O'Donnell studied at the Institute St Luc, Brussels from 1986 to 1990. She is known primarily as a printmaker and has been a member of the Graphic Studio Dublin since 1991.
Her still life prints focus on the salient detail of form and pattern, on the sheer sensuality of colour, on the tactile quality of the print medium, on the abstract structure of the image and on shadow as a compositional device.
The objects in her images are sometimes contemporary equivalents of objects overlooked in the corners of master paintings, sometimes things from her own life.
They are never without meaning.
