John’s work reflects his interest in the landscape and culture of the west of Ireland. The way of life for many has changed from having sustainable small family farms a few years ago to a less personal, more industrial form of agriculture with more income in the rural areas coming from the towns.
The work explores qualities of rural life that he feels are drifting away from the communities. The enclosed environment of a small working farm used to be a magical place to grow up in, now the scale of equipment and buildings required to operate a farm have removed this intimate relationship with the land.
